Nedra Matteucci Galleries' 2017 exhibition will remain on display through July 22.

Artist William Berra paints sunlit Italian landscapes, rustic New Mexican scenes, figures, and churches – all with an impressionistic touch. He enjoys painting on location, and he begins by visualizing the composition. As the work evolves, it becomes a composite of visual stimuli, memory and experience. 

"To keep my mind and my approach fresh I mix it up,” says Berra. “Sometimes painting figures, on other occasions landscapes, while sometimes turning to still life. If I look out to my garden, a painting of a bird on a sunflower skeleton is born. If I'm traveling, my subject lies out the window. And if my wife happens to stand in silhouette in an arched doorway, that image will inspire a composition."

Berra’s work emphasizes light and color, harmony and spontaneity, and each piece conveys emotion through an inviting sense of ambiguity. The expressionistic mood of Berra's work strikes each viewer differently, offering a sense of discovery and affinity.

For several decades, Berra has been an exciting artist to follow. The collection of recent paintings will include an expanded range of subject matter, demonstrating Berra's inclination to explore beyond the boundaries of his work.

Berra's paintings have been exhibited extensively in the United States and are represented in private and public collections around the world, including those in Taiwan, Mali, Portugal, and Spain.

Join our knowledgeable gallery staff for a fun and educational experience, covering the most important works in the collection, the history of the building, and some of the gallery's private rooms, including the research library. Painter John Moyers awarded James R. Parks Trustees’ Purchase Award at the Autry Museum

Contemporary painter John Moyers has been awarded the prestigious James R. Parks Trustees' Purchase Award at the Autry Museum of the American West in Los Angeles, California. Moyers' painting The Elder's Walk will join the Autry's permanent collection.

Jenna Winters, director and producer, aspires to tell the story of her father’s extraordinary life through a full-length documentary. The film will reveal how Michael Naranjo sees, despite having lost his vision in Vietnam. With his hands, his heart, and his intuition, Naranjo creates bronzes of uncommon beauty. Winters' proposed documentary will reveal the challenges and triumphs of his life, the love and determination he shares with his wife Laurie, and the importance of dreaming, trying, and doing.

Panel Discussion Organized by the Harwood Couse Foundation, September 3

On the first Saturday of September, The Couse Foundation is collaborating with the Harwood Museum to present a panel discussion with three distinguished scholars of western art: Taos Society of Artists: Western Art or American Art? The lecture will be held at the Harwood Museum, Arthur Bell Auditorium, located at 238 Ledoux Street, Taos, NM 87571. Tickets are available for $10.00 from the Harwood Museum at 575-758-9826. The program begins at 10:00 a.m. on September 3, 2016.  The Couse Foundation will be holding their regularly scheduled open house on Saturday, September 3, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. The Couse-Sharp Historic Site is located at 146 Kit Carson Road, Taos, NM 87571.
